"Dirty" Dominik Mysterio Shocks AAA, Challenges for Mega Championship

WWE Intercontinental Champion "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio made a surprising appearance at a Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide event in Mexico City this past Friday, July 25th, assaulting both Dragon Lee and the reigning AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo. The audacious invasion has set the stage for a monumental Fatal Four-Way match at AAA's biggest show of the year, Triplemanía XXXIII, on August 16th.

The evening's events began with El Hijo del Vikingo issuing an open challenge for his prestigious AAA Mega Championship. Dragon Lee, a familiar face to both WWE and Mexican wrestling fans, answered the call, as did the debuting El Grande Americano (believed to be WWE's Ludwig Kaiser). However, the situation escalated dramatically when a masked, hooded figure stormed the ring, attacking both Vikingo and Lee. The crowd erupted when the assailant unmasked, revealing none other than Dominik Mysterio, much to the delight of the Mexican faithful.

Following his calculated ambush, Mysterio grabbed a microphone, making it clear his intentions were not just to cause chaos, but to claim championship gold. He boldly declared himself the "best Mysterio to ever step foot in AAA," seemingly a direct shot at his legendary father, Rey Mysterio. This challenge was swiftly met by AAA officials, who announced Mysterio's inclusion in the Triplemanía XXXIII Mega Championship bout, making it a star-studded Fatal Four-Way featuring El Hijo del Vikingo defending against Dragon Lee, El Grande Americano, and now, "Dirty" Dominik Mysterio.

The appearance of Mysterio, the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, highlights the growing collaboration between WWE and AAA, a partnership that has seen WWE acquire the Mexican promotion earlier this year. While WWE talent has previously competed in AAA and even claimed tag team titles, this marks the first time a major WWE champion will compete for the main event title at Triplemanía, AAA's flagship show.

WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque even released footage of Mysterio's explosive reveal, praising "Dirty Dom" as "a STAR" no matter where he performs, underscoring the significance of this cross-promotional venture.

Before his quest to become a double champion at Triplemanía, Dominik Mysterio is also slated to defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship against AJ Styles at SummerSlam, scheduled for August 2-3.

Dominik Mysterio's shocking arrival in AAA has undoubtedly added a new layer of intrigue and excitement to the Mexican lucha libre scene. Fans are now eagerly anticipating Triplemanía XXXIII, where "Dirty Dom" will aim to etch his name into AAA history and potentially walk away with dual championship gold.
