Kraneo Leaving CMLL After 16 Years
After sixteen years of bringing colour and unique charisma to the hallowed halls of Arena México, Kráneo has officially announced his departure from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). The news was confirmed on 4 May 2026, through a social media post by his nephew, Hijo de Alebrije, marking the end of a tenure that began in 2010.
Kráneo, formerly known as El Alebrije, has been a fixture of the "Serious and Stable" promotion for over a decade. He is perhaps best remembered for his 2012 reign as Mexican National Trios Champion alongside Mr. Águila and Psicosis, as well as his long-standing partnership with the diminutive Mije. His presence provided a bridge between the high-flying traditionalism of CMLL and the more character-driven spectacle of AAA, where he spent the first thirteen years of his career.
The veteran's final match with the promotion took place on 7 March 2026, where he teamed with Infarto and Los Gemelos Diablos in a losing effort against the energetic Los Viajeros Del Espacio. Following that appearance, Kráneo had been notably absent from the CMLL programming blocks, leading to quiet speculation regarding his status. The confirmation of his exit via his nephew’s video serves as a respectful, if understated, goodbye to a performer who has spent the better part of thirty years in the ring.
While no specific reason for the departure was given, the move follows a trend of veteran talent seeking new challenges or a lighter schedule on the independent circuit. At 53 years of age, Kráneo remains a beloved figure in Lucha Libre, and his departure opens the door for one final run as an independent agent. Whether he returns to his roots in AAA or explores the growing international Lucha scene, the man behind the mask leaves CMLL with a legacy of versatility and enduring fan appeal.
