"Fire Def Rebel" Chants as Jordynne Grace Debuts New NXT Theme

Jordynne Grace's debut of a new entrance theme on this week's episode of WWE NXT has sparked a significant, and largely negative, reaction from the wrestling fanbase, leading to widespread "Fire Def Rebel" chants throughout the arena and across social media.

The "Juggernaut" stepped out to a different tune for her match against Lola Vice, a change that was immediately met with audible displeasure from the live crowd at the WWE Performance Center. Chants of "Fire Def Rebel!" quickly erupted, targeting WWE's in-house music production team, which has been a frequent source of fan frustration over the perceived generic nature of many recent theme songs.

Grace herself acknowledged the backlash, taking to social media to address the criticism. In a defiant tweet, she stated, "I know what the streets are saying, but y'all better suspend that disbelief and vibe with it, GOT IT?" She even playfully responded to a fan who said they wouldn't "vibe with it" by tweeting, "Lmk what you gonna wear next week so I can jump the barricade real quick."

The reasons behind the theme song change have also come to light. Reports indicate that Grace previously owned the rights to her popular TNA theme song, which she had been using in her initial WWE NXT appearances. However, WWE has reportedly become increasingly insistent on owning the rights to all theme music used on their programming.

Furthermore, a specific element of Grace's original theme, a siren that opened the track, was cited as a reason for the change. It was deemed too similar to Bron Breakker's theme, which also features sirens as a tribute to Scott Steiner, and WWE opted to prioritize Breakker's signature sound to avoid redundancy. This decision, however, has only fueled the "Fire Def Rebel" sentiment among fans who feel WWE's music production lacks creativity and individuality.

The sentiment against Def Rebel is not new, with many fans consistently calling for a return to the distinctive and iconic themes produced by previous composers like CFO$ and Jim Johnston. The immediate and vocal reaction to Jordynne Grace's new theme serves as a strong reminder of how crucial entrance music is to a wrestler's presentation and connection with their audience.

Despite the negative reception to her music, Grace went on to defeat Lola Vice in her Evolution Eliminator match, advancing in the tournament to determine the next #1 contender for the NXT Women's Championship. While her in-ring performance remains strong, the debate over her new theme song is likely to continue as fans express their desire for more memorable and character-fitting entrance music in WWE.
